"Bienvenidos" Fuerteventura

Last year, Quilting Arts Magazine had a reader challenge called "My favourite vacation spot". They asked theire readers to make a postcard album from the place they wanted to spend their holidays. These are some of the pages from my entry, which I called "Bienvenidos Fuerteventura". Every spring since 1996 we have spent wondeful days there - now it's time again........

Tome - Page 3

This is the page 3 of my Stargaze Stitchery Tome. March month's page is called "Fiber Collage" and is both traditional and more contemporary. The front of the page is a summer side. Patti Culea's pattern has a lady's face surrounded by fabric flowers. I don't feel confident with drawing, so I decided to make a landscape instead - also because I wanted to use my embroidery unit. On the winter (back) side I've used painted and shrinkedTyvek, Angelina, organza, beads etc to create the scene. I think this side turned out to be the best.

This Week's Goodies

What I really like with Internet, is that I "meet" people from all over the world, and this contact brings a lot of surprises and treasures in my mailbox. These photos show the goodies I received this week:

Some time ago, I tried to make a sample piece with felt, organza and a soldering iron. It didn't work very well, because I used woollen felt, and the organza didn't melt into it as I wanted. I wrote about this on the blog, and what happend?? Jane from Art4Mail sent me an envelope filled with this Kunin (syntetic) felt - all the way from USA!! Thank you so much Jane, my soldering iron and heatgun are ready!!
Myra and I have done a trade with bookmarks. This is the one she sent me, and I love it. I wish I could say I was the model for these lovely curves.....In the envelope I also found this beautiful postcard which I had admired on her blog. Sorry Myra, I forgot to take a photo of the chocolate. All of a sudden it was gone!!

Gunnel and I have also done a trade, and this is the postcard she sent me. The day I received the card, it was raining and everything was grey - unless this colourful card. It made my day, and now I also have to look at cross stitches with "new" eyes, they can be very decorative. Thanks Gunnel!
Another trade - this time with Beate. Her blog was one of the first I ever visited. Her art is very colourful, and with lot of humour. I admire her work very much. Just now she's working with felt in the colours of spring, and I was lucky to receive this lovely postcard. Thanks for trading Beate!

The last postcard arrived from Miriam in Dublin. She's not a blogger - (not yet?). Miriam is a source of inspiration for me. We have swapped several postcards during the last year, and every singel card is great. I've seen photos of some of her pieces, and she makes beautiful work. She has explained some of her techniques for me. I used one of them to make the sea/waves on my dolphin card on a previous post. I have a soft spot for anything Irish, so I'm very happy for this card with the high cross. Thanks Miriam!

"The real thing" and a wall hanging

My collection of fuchsias and some pelargoniums spend the winter in a cold basement, no light and nearly no water - only the fuchsias get a little every 4th week or so. Now they have spent a couple of weeks in the kitchen, and most of them have started to grow. Today they got some water. If that turns out well, I'll change the soil in a few days. Hopefully I can do that outdoor!!
I made the wall hanging last year. The flowers and leaves are cut from a fabric with pelargoniums. I cut both flowers and leaves into small pieces, and put them together again like a jig-saw. Some leaves and some butterflies are 3D. I like this wall hanging, it's kind of bright although there are so many grey shades in it - or maybe that's why?

More postcards

Annica made several postcards for the Cyber Fyber Exhibition. She had a voting on her blog to decide which card she should send to Susan Lenz. Lucky for me, this card didn't win, and now it's on my working table!! Thank you so much Annica, the card is great, lots of different fibers; felt, scrim, lace, ribbon, silk (I think) fibres and hand stitching.

Someone asked me what happened to the flour paste fabric from a previous post. Well, I painted the fabric and made (what do you think??) - postcards. I added some couched yarns, some beads and made a dream catcher, wishing the recipients sweet dreams!!

I've just had a look, and there are still some postcards left, so hurry up if you would like to receive a postcard from this very talented lady!!

This is the postcard I sent her; a Greek dolphin:Yesterday I played with the felting unit on my Bernina. Hopefully my garden will look like this in a few months time:
